imagine-that-haikyuu:

Welcome to another installment of FIC REC FRIDAY here at imagine-that-haikyuu! Each Friday, I’ll recommend two or three Haikyuu!! fics I’ve read over the week as recommended by you (or anything I read on my own) and include some of my thoughts about each fic. This is just one way to support fellow writers and get the word out about their works!

My hope is that you read the fics in each post, leave comments/reblogs/kudos/likes for them, send them to your friends, all that good stuff. The best way to let writers know you like what they’re doing is to do those things after all. I know it’s what I’ll be doing as I read through them.

I’m thankfully not late this time, but the fics are on the shorter side again this week (a lot has been going on both at work and my personal life, and reading has not been a priority). Plus, some of the multi-chaptered fics recommended are longer, and I want to either catch up to where they are currently or finish them completely before writing up my thoughts from now on.

If you have a Haikyuu!! fic you know or have written yourself that you want to see featured on a FIC REC FRIDAY post, drop the link in our inbox or in the replies. I’m always looking for more to read!

Thoughts: I’m glad I’m getting recommendations for Yui-centric fics because Yui is such a cutie and I don’t see much love for her going around. This piece in particular is a great read in how Daichi is characterized. I feel like in general (myself included), we forget that he has his moments of immaturity even though we know him to be a stable, guiding force for Karasuno. This fic exemplifies this perfectly: Yui gets to see that vulnerability from him, which is important for her to know considering they’re paired here. That and it’s just an overall well-written, introspective piece.

Pairing(s): Ukai/Reader
Thoughts: Hooooo. Hooooooooooooo. I always gotta fan myself with this one. Be advised that it’s very NSFW, which is why I love it. It’s one of my ultimate Ukai fantasies and find my way back to this fic a lot. Momo is a fantastic writer and I’ve read a good deal of her reader-inserts, and this one definitely takes the cake for me.

These are both fantastic!!

Ask box open? So excited! Can you add Ukai to your ballroom/latin dance AU? I’m thinking Rachel will want to write it because he’s her husband? I wasn’t sure what to ask for in relation to the AU since I’m sure you have an idea of what you want to write (and I’m clueless when it comes to dance) but if you want more details I can try to come up with something?

imagine-that-haikyuu:

a little known fact is that 75% of the reason i started this blog was that somewhere along the way, someone would ask me for this ballroom/latin!au. when i brought may on and we started talking to get to know each other, i found out she also loves dancing with the stars as much as i do. we knew we had to write this au or else we’d only screech to each other about it with no other outlet

  • Heather Morris’s rumba with Maks Chmerkovskiy is my inspiration for Ukai’s and your dancing so definitely check it out. It’s, like, pitch perfect, the chemistry is all there, I could go on. I’d like to think that good songs for a rumba with him are Amy Winehouse’s slow-downed BBC Live Lounge version of “Valerie” or “Crystallized” by Young the Giant
  • The two of you have been partnered up since you were kids, and it shows. There’s just something so effortless in your dancing and your partnership. It makes even the most serious of dance styles look like fun.
    • Needless to say, it took a lot of work (and a little falling in love) to make that happen. Your personalities clashed a lot in the beginning, but something clicked after a particularly bad day in competition and things took a turn for the better from there.
  • Since he buzzed his hair in his youth, he never had to slick back his hair for competition. The headband he wears all the time now to push his hair back  is a sort of middle ground for that when he’s instructing.
  • The boys love it when Ukai calls you into help with classes. Partially because, hey, a pretty lady is coming to see them, but also because you can give their partners insight that they’re more receptive to since you’re in their position
    • Plus, the demos from you two are either really hot helpful or lead to some hilarious bickering after
  • Has a soft spot for the Viennese waltz and foxtrot, even though he’s a latin guy himself. You often joke about him liking those standard dances–as opposed to the tango–because of his delinquent-like appearance.
    • (This is where I direct you to another dance from Maks Chmerkovskiy, but this time it’s his Viennese waltz with Meryl Davis because I have not shut up to May for days already about this being the perfect VWaltz for Ukai and his partner. I get really emotional about it)
  • His favorite outside of the ten dance styles in competition is the Argentine tango. Dancing in close embrace with you is just so romantic for him.

So cool! Thanks for a new obsession!

Halloween ask: Ukai being dragged to a cornfield maze by the boys and he ends up separated from them only to find his old crush from high school lost and helps her. I’ll leave it to you on whether you want to make it spookier by there being a real (but not malevolent) ghost in the maze or if it’s just hokey and they laugh together while trying to get out or maybe work together to scare the boys? However you want to do it! Thanks and Happy Halloween!

Ukai thinks himself a total hypocrite. Before entering this corn maze with the team, he made sure to instruct them all to stay together. Yet, here he was on his own with nothing but a dim flashlight in hand.

Only fifteen minutes or so into their journey in, something spooked the kids. He doesn’t know exactly what, since he and Takeda trailed behind the pack. But out of nowhere someone screamed (probably Hinata) and sent the rest of the team already on edge into a scramble.

Except for Tsukishima, who seemed rather unphased by this. He only started running when Yamaguchi called out to him in fear that “it’s gonna get you!”, to which the tall blonde clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes before groaning, “Fine” and heading off.

“Those idiots,” Ukai grumbled.

“They’ll be fine,” Takeda said. “They all have maps of the maze with them.”

“We should probably try to keep an eye on them, though. I’d rather not deal with angry parents later.”

So he an Takeda split up. Not their brightest idea–literally–as Ukai’s flashlight now seems to dim and flicker more by the minute. He put in fresh batteries before leaving for the maze too. When the light cuts completely, he slaps it a few times to try and restore it, but to no avail.

After a string of muttered curses, he throws his head back. Now would be the perfect time to light a cigarette, but the last thing he wants to do is to accidentally set the place ablaze. Well, the only thing left to do is to try and find another group wandering through the maze to help him out. In the dark, he can barely make out the path before him nor the cornstalk boundaries; it’ll be a slow process. Ukai sighs, lifts his arms up to out in front of him, and takes his first steps.
