Kuroo’s hands slid around Yachi’s waist as she leaned over the sink, her attention solely on the task of applying mascara without stabbing herself in the eye, his voice low and warm in her ear, as waggled his eyebrows at her cute kitten patterned scrubs; “Helllooooo nurse.”

He saw the eye roll but also the smile she couldn’t hold back as she swatted his hands, complaining, though her tone belied any real irritation, “Must you do that every day, doctor?”

Kuroo grinned, nuzzling his nose into the crook of her neck, drawing a mixed sigh of exasperation and fondness from her glossy lips as he murmured, “Doctor’s giving you news, he’s got a bad case of lovin’ you.”

“Sorry you had to stay late again, ______-chan, we just really want to make sure we’re tightened down.”

You kept your head tilted down, fixating your attention on the clipboard in your hands. “It’s fine, Kuroo-san, I don’t mind. I’d be losing sleep anyway.”

“Oh ho?” You could feel him leaning closer. “And who, pray tell, is keeping you awake at night?”

“Don’t flatter yourself Kuroo-san,” you chuckled, hoping your play at nonchalance would be believed. It was doubtful considering who you were talking to but you could hope.

Kuroo elected to laugh, leaning up and away to move towards the exit. “I gotta get changed, I’ll walk you home, just hang tight,” he called over his shoulder.

Now there was an image you didn’t need. Ok, maybe you didn’t mind so much, it just made hiding your affection for Kuroo that much harder. Why did he have to be so damn attractive? And smart? And endearingly dorky?

You shook your head, trying to dispel the images and the pang in your heart. You needed to focus on supporting the team, they needed your full attention, unrequited love be damned.

“Go, go Nekoma! Push it, push it, Nekoma!”

The gym thundered with the noise of cheering. You were barely able to remain seated next to the coaches, your legs bouncing, clutching your clipboard so tight you were sure your fingers would cramp any moment.

The moment the other team called for a timeout, you were up, rushing to give the starters their water and towels, stammering out words of encouragement as best you could given the rattle of your own nerves.

The tremors in your heart intensified when you met your eyes to Kuroo’s. He took the bottle from your hand, fingers grazing yours and lifted it to his lips chugging down gulps of water. He wiped his mouth which then formed into that trademark smirk. “Cheer loud for me, eh?”

You swallowed and could only nod.

He grinned again before taking off for the court.

“So I didn’t hear you cheering,” Kuroo commented on the bus ride home, feigned hurt in his tone.

You shifted away, sure that he hadn’t meant to sit that close to you and you didn’t want to amplify the awkward. “My mistake, I’ll bring the bullhorn next time,” you said with a slight smile.

Kuroo scooted closer, his arm on the back of the bench seats to give him room and you could feel the heat radiating off him. His voice lowered and he leaned down closer to you. “Can I ask you something?”

You shifted again, giving him your full attention, sure he was going to ask for some stats on the game.

“Would you go out with me sometime?”

Your brain short circuited and your mouth opened and closed with no sound coming out. He waited, cheeks a little pinker than they were when he first sat down but he kept his gaze locked to yours.

Finally you managed to speak, “Are you serious?”

He snorted. “No, I’m screwing with you just to be an ass.” He shook his head, reached forward and took your hand in his. “Of course I am, you dork.”

You were silent again so he added, “Just nod, if you want to that is.”

And slowly, your head bobbed up and down making him smile even wider.

Could I please request, Kuroo trying to get close to his crush who is considered to be an Ice Queen but instead just has really bad social anxiety and is very shy.

Kuroo knew there was more to her than meets the eyes. No one was one dimensional, no matter how hard they tried to give that impression; even himself from time to time.

But every time he tried to talk to her, she shut him down or avoided him all together.

“I don’t know why you’re trying so hard,” Kenma said, eyes focused on his PSP.

“Haven’t you ever heard of the thrill of the chase?” Kuroo replied.

Kenma glanced up briefly. “If you’re just playing with her-”

Kuroo put up his hands. “I’m not, I’m not. I just… find her intriguing. I can’t really explain it but I really do like her and want to get to know her better.” He sighed, dropping his hands. “If she’ll ever let me.”

“So what’ll it take to get you to agree to coffee?”

You looked up with a start, pen almost dropping out of your fingers. You fixed your face into your usual scowl. “Leave me alone, nerd.”

Kuroo snorted. “Wow, original. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, how about answering my question?”

You got up, intent on walking away but he blocked your path. You looked up into half fringe covered eyes, startled at the seriousness you found. “Why would you want to go out with someone like me?”

Kuroo put his hands in his pockets, shrugged his shoulders. “You’re… different and intriguing and… pretty,” his cheeks colored slightly at this last, eyes casting to the ground. “What do you have to lose?” he added.

Your eyes searched his face for deception, for teasing, for anything to indicate an ulterior motive; and found none.

Finally, you smiled, faintly but true. “Ok, Kuroo-san, I’ll have coffee with you.”

*Wild fangirl appears* *Uses attack ‘Do you have any KuroYachi headcanons?😏’*

hq-rare-pairs:

I will admit, I have been converted because of those two comics of them, and the great tag we have of them, so:

  • Study bugs study together. They even exchange color coding tips. Kuroo has a great system for science, especially for biology and chemistry diagrams. Yachi excels in highlighting critical points for English and literature
    • Yachi shows Kuroo her notes for managing the volleyball team, and Kuroo starts using some of the charts and stuff
  • Yachi used to be really intimidated by Kuroo’s smirk and, you know, their 38 cm height difference. But once Kuroo realizes how intimidating he is to Yachi, he tries really hard—poor guy—to be not intimidating anymore
    • he slouches slightly when he’s speaking to Yachi, not so much that he towers over her, but so that he leans slightly closer to her to listen to her speak. he smiles, genuinely when he sees her, gives her a little wave before trying to speak to her
  • Kuroo treats Yachi like a princess, as in he picks her up and twirls her around. Then hugging her close, he nuzzles their noses together while Yachi is still giggling
  • He lets her try to draw a portrait of him one time, because she was studying the way his hair works. He has the sketch kept in his drawer, along with all the other doodles she’s drawn while she’s visiting him
  • Kuroo showing Yachi around in Tokyo. They go to modern art and design museums. Kuroo listens really intently to everything Yachi says, and he gives really perceptive and intelligent comments
    • then they go to a science museum and Yachi listens to Kuroo nerd out
  • He keeps her close when they’re on the train, his hand on Yachi’s back as he pulls her to him so she doesn’t start freaking out
  • Yachi and Kuroo taking the CUTEST, purest selfies together. Kuroo has the biggest, cutest grin in all of them and Yachi always gushes about his smile when they look over the photos.
    • Sometimes Kuroo snorts and remarks that he looks kinda stupid but Yachi immediately tells him that he doesn’t, then leans over and gives him a kiss
    • They also go to take sticker photos together and use all the cat stickers.
  • Kuroo always makes sure he has a bag of fugashi at his place when she visits
  • Yachi’s mom immediately falls in love with Kuroo the first time he goes over for dinner. Because let’s face it. Kuroo is a sweetheart. and he’s great with adults. the absolute best boyfriend to bring home.
    • Yachi’s started cooking for herself and her mom from an early age, so when Kuroo comes over for the first time, she prepares dinner: mackerel pike
    • The next few times he comes over, he always come like half an hour earlier than they agreed so he can help Yachi cook
