Kei Tsukishima – Prompt #44
– “I don’t know why I’m crying"

You were completely exhausted, lying on your side lightly snoring but that was
to be expected after twenty four hours of labor. Looking down at the small
bundle in his hands, Kei allows a more genuine smile to grace his face. He’s here,
his son, is finally here. And thank
goodness he hadn’t had a daughter; Kei doubted he’d have the patience for one.
But he could teach his son how to be cool, or so his uncle Tadashi proclaimed.

Kei can’t help but stare at him; he looks so tiny and
fragile in his large hands with his eyes shut gently in slumber. The quiet of
the hospital room is peaceful especially after all the visitors they’ve had. As
the first to have a child, you and Kei had been even more inundated with people
clamoring to see him. Kei stares out the window thinking over the day.

“It’s a shame he looks
like you,” Kageyama said when he observed Katsuro has the same golden eyes as
his father.

“I’d like to see you do better, king.” His comment had made Hitoka blush, her husband stammering as his own face reddened.

Looking back down, he’s surprised to see Katsuro opening his eyes. Kei leans down and nuzzles the baby’s nose chiding, “You’re already a
handful for your mom.” He receives a wide yawn in response making him chuckle. After
some continued squirming from the baby, the new father decides to undo the
swaddle. When he’s free, Katsuro wraps his small hand around one of Kei’s long
fingers and squeezes making his father quietly inhale a sharp breath. He’s
already so strong.

Small wets spots appear on the baby blanket so lovingly knit
together by Hitoka and Kei rubs his eyes. “I
don’t know why I’m crying
,” he confesses to the little human held snuggly
against his chest in a cradle.

Your sleepy voice draws Kei’s attention to the bed. “Great,
now I have two babies to take care
of,” you tease, a tired smile on your face.

“Shut up,” he retorts but he’s smiling softly as well.

You lift your arms and reluctantly Kei relinquishes Katsuro
so you can feed him. Watching you with his son makes him fall in love with you
all over again. Damn, he has gone
soft. And yet, in this moment, he couldn’t care less.
