Iwaizumi loves watching her with kids. Her face lights up, her giggle is music and his heart swells a little more with love, his vision turning to the future; one he hopes isn’t too far away.

She’ll make a great mom someday.

Their first few years of marriage fly by–they were some of the first among their friends to take the plunge–but when the time comes to start building their family, time becomes the enemy and responses to other people’s joyful announcements are tinged in their souls with envy.

Why can’t we have a baby?

Elation is a word used too often incorrectly, Iwaizumi thinks. But it’s the only word that comes to mind when she speaks the words they’ve both been longing to hear.

I’m pregnant.

Having a co-ed baby shower was one of her best ideas to date, because of course they want every person who’ve been with them through the toil and pain of trying, trying, trying to be there when trying becomes success.

He scowls a little at Oikawa’s over enthusiastic “You look cute with a baby bump” but restrains himself from thumping the man on the back of the head; no need to teach his former setter’s children bad habits, that would just invoke poor parent karma.

So he smiles and kisses her temple and they laugh and talk and plan, take some advice (dismissing most) and bask in the glow of their impending sleeplessness.

Iwaizumi can’t wait.
