- Has a growth spurt half way through third year of high school.
- Makes him super awkward again because he’s not used to the extra height
- Lots of miss timed spikes, hitting the net, basically everything he did wrong when he first started playing.
- Teased by Tsukishima for not knowing how to operate long limbs
- Kageyama calls him an idiot even more for the same reason
- Neither will admit how uncomfortable they are that Hinata can retort on almost even ground.
- Loses the nickname “Little Giant” but earns Demon of the Court because of his seemingly supernatural abilities
- Still the fastest on the court, maybe even faster because of said long limbs when he gains control of them.
- Sprouts up again during summer between graduation and university starting
- Bummed that he didn’t get tapped to join the national team
- Doesn’t stop playing of course. There’s always next year (or this if he gets noticed)
- Used to being gawked at for his skills so feeling eyes on him is normal. Not aware it’s more females looking at him than usual until Kageyama points it out.
- “Is there something on your face?”
- “What? No! Why?”
- “Those girls are pointing and laughing.”
- Blushes as he looks, wonders at why they’re seeming to make fun of him.
- It’s Iwaizumi who explains.
- “They think you’re cute”
- “Huh? How do you know that?!”
- “Because it’s the same looks Shitty-kawa got! Watch, next game you’ll have a gaggle of fan girls and I’ll kick your ass too if you lose focus.”
- Sure enough as they enter the gym there’s a crowd of girls waving and calling out to him. Hinata’s face reddens so much he looks burned.
- When Oikawa comes home for the weekend, Hinata begs him for help.
- “How do you talk to girls?!”
- “Eh? Iwa-chan, you’re getting overlooked again? I thought things would improve for you once I left.”
- “Shut up!”
- The next game, Hinata repeats Oikawa’s advice like a mantra in his head.
- Stand up straight but not too rigid.
- Eyes soft but confident, no wide eyes.
- Smile, laugh a bit, make their efforts feel appreciated.
- Don’t single any one girl out.
- Fails miserably. He squints, laughs way too loud and long and fumbles with any gifts.
- Endears them more because he’s so damn cute but it’s just too painful to watch.
- “Just be yourself,” Iwaizumi snaps one day at practice.
- “But-“
- “And get back to work!”
- Eventually gets used to the crowd, mostly just smiles awkwardly and waves. Accepts bentos and cookies with a cute bow.
- Never lets it get to his head, remains the same sweet sunshine child just with a deeper voice.
