The first thing you notice when you get out of the car is, it’s dark. The second is, it’s cold, your breath showing out in puffs of steam.
But your guide, a driver from a car service, walks out into the field with purpose. Sighing and tugging your jacket closer to your body, you follow, wondering who in their right mind would set up a blind date in the middle of nowhere.
As you get closer to your apparent end destination, the reason for the randomness becomes clear in the form of one person: Kise Ryota.
“______-cchi!” he exclaims, “I’m so glad you made it on time!”
“And what, pray tell, am I on time for?” you ask with a shiver.
He chuckles, eyes somehow still gleaming despite the lack of light. “You’ll see, come on,” he insists tugging your hand.
When you descend the next hill your eyes widen. There, in the middle of an open plane of grass, is the biggest balloon you’ve ever seen.
“We’re taking to the skies today!” Kise says heartily.
Within a few minutes, you’re both in the basket, your guide expertly flashing the flames that take you higher and higher into the air. Kise pours you a cup of hot chocolate, tapping his against it in a light toast.
You smile at him and just as you open your mouth to speak, a soft glow begins to spread over his face. Swiftly you turn, gasping at the beauty of the sky as the sun rises in the east.
“That is what we’re on time for,” Kise says in your ear then pecks your cheek. “Happy Valentine’s day.”
