Teshima: A little misunderstanding

imagine-yowamushi:

ASK: Could I get a scenario with Teshima asking a classmate out on a date, being confident and such (maybe inwardly nervous?) but she gets confused because she thought he and Aoyagi were a couple the entire time? Basically that misunderstanding trope, haha!

Teshima stares in the mirror, eyes focused. Wetting his lips he repeats, “You can do this. Just go up to her and ask. The worst she can do is say no.” Well, that’s not true he considers as he exits the bathroom and makes his way back to class. She could laugh in his face, be disgusted at the idea of him liking her, think it’s a joke…

A grunt from his left has him turning his head to find Aoyagi with a slight frown on his face that makes him wince slightly.

“Ok, ok,” he defends, putting up his hands. “I’ll just get it over with.” Aoyagi grabs his shoulder, staring intensely and Teshima sighs. “You’re right, I have to be more confident.” He stands up straighter, putting on an easy smile, earning a thumbs up from the male beside him.

Nodding once, Teshima strolls into class, thankful the lunch hour is longer because of teacher meetings. Spying her with some girlfriends on the far side of the classroom, he wills his body to move forward. The thought of an audience allows some of his confidence to waver but he feels Aoyagi’s eyes boring into the back of his head. There’s no way he’ll let him off the hook.

Pushing down his nerves and putting one foot in front of the other, he runs over in his mind what to say but before he knows it, he’s standing right in front of her, the group of girls looking at him with expressions ranging from curiosity to annoyance at his interruption of their gossip. But she, of course, greets him with a warm smile and a, “Oh hey, Teshima-san.”

Mouth growing dry, he clears his throat. “Hey, _____-chan, um, may I speak to you for a moment? Alone?”

Unhesitatingly, she stands, following his lead to a quieter corner of the classroom.

“So, what’s up?” she asks brightly, hands casting behind her back as she rocks on her heels.

Working up all his courage and doing everything in his power not to stutter, Teshima replies, “I wanted to see if you’d like to go out with me? Maybe to a movie or something?”

Her movement halts abruptly, eyes widening as she covers her mouth. From behind her hand she mumbles, “Did something happen between you and Aoyahi-san?”

Teshima frowns. “What does he have to do with any of this?”

“I mean, because you’re dating and all-”

“What? Aoyagi and I aren’t dating!” he whispers harshly.

She gasps. “You…you mean you broke up? And you’re already asking someone else out? Don’t you think you should give yourself a little more? And tact, because really asking me out in front of him is just-”

He cuts off her rambling with a terse, “We were never dating to begin with. He’s my best friend.”

Her eyes widen further, cheeks flushing a deep red. “Oh,” she replies weakly, wringing her hands.

“Wait, did you all think…”

She nods and he groans.

“I…I’m sorry Teshima-san,” she says hurriedly, “it’s just, you two are always together and look so close that we just assumed-”

“You’re always with your friends, does that mean you’re dating any of them?” he asks exasperated.

Opening and closing her mouth, she finally manages to admit, “Well, when you put it that way…”

“Sheesh,” he grumbles, eye closed and fingertips rubbing his temples. Opening them once more and dropping his hands to his side he asks, “Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, how ‘bout it?”

“Huh?”

“Would you like to go on a date with me?” he asks again, voice more assured.

“I….oh! Yes! Yes, I’d love to go out with you, Teshima-san,” she affirms nodding her head rapidly.

“Ok, give me your number and I’ll text you mine.”

Work from my Yowamushi blog, I wanted to preserve these before I delete that blog. Enjoy!
