Daichi- Put a ring on it

ASK: May I ask for a scenario (or whatever’s easiest!) of Daichi’s reaction to his female s/o proposing to him? Thanks!

In honor of the crow captain’s birthday, I’m posting this one today!

The date had been wonderful, a peaceful walk through the park coupled with a basket of his favorite food. His girlfriend had surprised him after work, showing up at the school with the fixings for a relaxing evening. Unconsciously, he clenched her hand tighter. He felt bad that so much of his time was being taken away from her but he had a goal to earn his doctorate in sports medicine while part time coaching at his alma mater. They’d talked briefly about living together, but he couldn’t help thinking they should get married first. It was how his grandparents and parents had done things and he just couldn’t see doing anything else.

But they just couldn’t do that right now. The expense of a ring alone had shocked him, add to that the cost of a wedding and suddenly he was hearing register clangs instead of wedding bells.

Of course, he knew it wasn’t all about the money, they could have a simple wedding. Maybe-

“Daichi,” said the woman next to him, drawing his attention to her face.

“Hmmmm?”

“I…I was wondering…” she took a deep breath, stopping their forward motion and turning to look at him. She scanned his handsome face, the strong jaw she loved to kiss, the gentle smile that warmed her heart, the piercing gaze that seemed to read her soul. He was everything she ever wanted and even though she knew it would be hard, she just couldn’t hold back any longer. She looked down, slowly touching one knee to the ground as her hand exited her pocket with a box in it.

Daichi’s eyes widened so big he was sure they were going to fall out of his head. Was…she…really…

“Daichi, would…would you marry me?” she asked, holding up a simple silver band. She couldn’t keep tears from streaming down her face as she looked up at him. His mouth opened and closed, but he couldn’t form any words. Hastily she went on, “I know it’s not conventional….and….and I know it feels sudden…but…but I really love you and I was afraid you’d think you need to wait until you could afford a big diamond or a huge wedding or-”

Her rambling was cut off by a pair of warm lips covering hers, Daichi’s fingers raking through her hair. His tongue trailed along her bottom lip, prompting her to open to him. He moved his arms around her waist, drawing her closer as they knelt in the middle of the park.

Pulling away, they both drew long breaths. “I love you,” he rasped, forehead pressed to hers. He swallowed, trying to formulate his thoughts. “I…I won’t lie and say I’m not disappointed that I didn’t get to ask you but you’re completely right. I would have waited, not just because I thought you wanted those things but because I did too.” He felt her stiffen but held her firmly. “But I’m saying yes.”

She drew back, tear filled eyes staring into his. He smiled warmly, large hand cupping her cheek and his thumb wiping her tears away. “At the end of the day, I want to start our lives together too, everything else can come later.”
