Thank you, Jade!!! Youâre simply amazing to everyone, and I really really hope you like this. It took me so long because I wanted to write something nice for you, and it is the first time someone requests Ukai so it was a bit of a challenge.Â
Stay gold, Jade!!Âââ
It Was Always You – Ukai KeishinÂ
Being the coach of a team consisting of teenagers
always took Ukai to a nostalgic trip. As he watched them play he couldnât help
to remember when he was the one in the court. He was taken back to the time
when he was young, and he had made more than one mistake.ÂHe suspired with his hands resting on his hips as he
supervised yet another day of training. On that specific day he was absent, and
rather wistful.Ukai always believed she would always be his best friend. Since high
school and eight years after they had graduated that hadnât change one bit. But
life is ironic, life is full of unexpected occurrences.ÂHe couldnât really call it âunexpectedâ when it was
ignorance what was at fault. He hadnât known what he wanted until it was
snatched out from his hands. They had spent their whole life growing side by
side. They were so close that he had never thought of the idea of she being far
away.Until she started postponing plans, being unavailable,
ending phone calls too soon, he realized something in their current
relationship was changing and he wasnât exactly delighted by it.Woke
up sweating from a dream
with a different kind of feeling.
All day long my heart was beating
searching for the meaning.
He had no right to be surprised or shocked. Learning that she was
starting to see someone was the natural course of life. She wanted more,
something new. He didnât expect her to neglect one of the most basic needs a
human being could have, such as love. He simply never gave it a thought.ÂHe had never been one to be head-over-heels for someone. He wasnât the
romantic type of man, he was more of a lone wolf and he had found their
friendly relationship extremely comfortable. So damn comfortable that it never
occurred to him that maybe there was more between them. Why fix something that wasnât broken? Now there was something broken, and he didnât know how to fix it. He stared
as he threw an arm around her shoulders pulling her closer to him. She shyly
smiled and shrunk herself in his arm. Her whole expression shouted the
need of that, of being loved and being treated with love. Their friendship was
beyond marvelous. He could list all the good moments they had shared, and he
would never end counting. But there was only so much a friendship could
provide. It wouldnât be enough forever.Eventually a man would see her as the woman she was. And how much he
wished right then that he could be that man. It was an infinitely childish
wish. He had wanted her until he saw her with someone else. Still, Ukai wished
he could turn things around. He hoped for the day when she called him to let
him know it was all over, that the strange man would no longer kiss her lips,
take her hand, or interfere in their lives. Then, he would play his part. He would show her little by little what
was inside him. He would unveil what was hidden entirely unafraid and ready to
be the man she needed.Sadly, all of that was only hopeless wishing.
All my
hidden desires finally came alive
No, I never told lies to you sowhy
would I start
tonight?
And as months passed, his heart broke a bit more each day. It was clear as
water that she wasnât his. She was the woman of another man and he should
accept the reality he had put himself into. Decades of knowing each other, and
he never attempted anything. She would be furious with him.âWhy nowâ? She would ask.
Ukai would shrug and shake his head. If only he knew. More than anyone,
he was the one who wished he couldâve realized sooner the truly magnificent
adoration he felt for her. His hands twitched with the urge for her skin every
time he had her in front of him. He was wretched, and in love with the girl he
could never leave, and neither could he have. Because, unrequited love or not, she was still his best
friend, his box of secrets and source of joy. He would never be able to be far
away from her, even if that meant to be hurt. It would be more painful to be
without her.Hazel
eyes, I was so color blind
We were just wasting timeFor
my whole life, we never crossed the line
Only friends in my mind, but now I realize
It was a random Friday night, one of those where he
reunited with some of his old friends to catch up on life. Nights like that
were slowly becoming a rare thing. The more they grew up, the more were the
responsibilities they had to assume.Ukai was trying to avoid looking her way. His head was
already lighter than usual, and the least thing he wanted was to drop his façade. He
had done and spectacular job by keeping a poker face all those months, but it
could crumble down at any given moment if the right chance was presented to
him. He was going to give that one night to himself. He had passed the night triumphantly without even
connecting his eyes with hers. He assumed she had gone early, and decided to
put up the ghost act where you simply leave the party without saying goodbye,
so no one really notices youâre gone after awhile. He said his own goodbyes to his friends making an
unnecessary loud departure. The party inside was still louder than him, either
way. He pulled out a cigar, and lighted it up. The night was humid and hot and
he had no other option but to walk home. As he lifted his head ready to start
his late night journey, he found her standing alone across the street. He called her name out of instinct. She turned around startled,
but her expression soon changed to an odd, unstable smile.âYouâre leaving already. I didnât see you all night,â she said to him still
from across the street. She was hugging herself, and there was no cold breeze
to blame for that.âIs everything okay?â he asked. She showed the odd
smile again and nodded.ÂâYeah. Donât worry about me, Keishin.â
In other circumstances Ukai might as well had believed
her and continued his way. However, he was mildly drunk and an unprecedented
bravery sprouted from him. He walked up to her, and stood way too close. He knew how her traits looked when she was fine, when
she was happy. What he was seeing wasnât similar to joy. He was looking at a
couple of sad eyes clouded with undefined emotions.ÂHe raised his hand resting it on her cheek. She softly
gasped at the gesture.âWhatâs the matter?â
Tears instantly filled her eyes and her lips trembled.
She shook her head. âNothing I can tell you right now. I just needed a minute
outside.âÂâIs it him?â he dared to ask. She shook her head
again.âI-I⌠Iâll talk to you tomorrow. Please, go.â
âWhat did he do?â his voice was deeper that time
around. If the stranger man had dared to do even the slightest damage to her,
then Ukai couldnât leave the place just yet.âNothing. He has done nothingâŚâ her eyes exanimated
his face, and the third smile she threw at him was one he recognized well. The
smile of nostalgia he gave to his volleyball boys, to old pictures of them in
high school, it was that exact smile. âHe just⌠he isnâtâŚâ she closed her eyes
unable to continue provoking a couple of tears to roll from both her eyes.ÂHe stared in shock, and the barrier he had created
crashed down. He had begged for a chance, hadnât he?He tilted down his head, and with the hand that was
already on her face, he pushed her closer to him pressing his lips on hers.
Ukai felt the surprise, followed by her lips pressing against his and her hands
unhurriedly embracing his neck.ÂâHe isnât you,â she whispered after the kiss was
finished.ÂEven if I
could not see it all this timeNow
I know why my heart wasnât satisfied
No more guessing who
Looking back now I know it was always youââ
Thanks for the request! I REALLY hope you liked it!
Ahhhhhh!!! I loved the rememberances and that feeling of nostalgia when you’re watching a repeat of your young life before you.
It ended wonderfully and I felt your interpretation of the lyrics was great!
Thank you so much for writing this! Love coach!!
